Entry requirements

Find out what you need to study at Kingston University, London - International Study Centre

To study a preparatory programme at the International Study Centre you will need to meet certain entry requirements. Once you have decided which course you would like to study, you will need to check you meet the age, nationality and English language requirements that are needed for the programme of your choice. There are also country-specific requirements which will guide you on what qualifications you must have based on your home country's educational system.

If you don't meet the English language requirements for your International Foundation Year, International Year One or Pre-Masters programme, you can first join an Online English Programme.

Don't meet the pathway requirements?

If you are concerned that you do not meet the IELTS requirements for your intended programme, you can enrol in one of our English Language Preparation Online courses. These are offered to students who need to focus more closely on improving their language skills ahead of starting their education in the UK. You will be fully supported by attentive, experienced teachers and, upon successful completion of the English Language Preparation Online course, you will be ready to succeed in one of our academic programmes.

If you are applying to study in the UK under the Student visa route it may be necessary for you to submit a Secure English Language Test (SELT) as part of your visa application.

You can start your studies with a UKVI- approved Secure English Language Test (SELT), provided you have met all the programme entry requirements.

The test results must have been achieved in the past 24 months and meet the minimum English equivalency score for your chosen programme.

* The English language entry requirements stated are for information regarding entry to the course. If you require a UK visa to study, depending on the type of visa you need, the English language requirements and valid English tests to satisfy the UK visa criteria may differ.
** If you do not need a Student visa, or are exempted in another way, we can accept an equivalent proof of English language skill.

EU students include:

  • EEA (European Economic Area) migrant workers and their families in the UK who have lived in the EEA for 3 years
  • EU nationals and their children who have lived in the EEA for 3 years
  • Refugees (recognised by the UK government) and their families
  • People who have applied for asylum and have been granted leave to enter/remain, and their families

The rules on whether you are classified as a ‘home’ or ‘overseas’ student are strictly defined by the British Government; universities do not have discretion.
